(re) Introducing Bodega Santa Rosa

Famiglia Passadore

Some wineries are built by ambition.
Others are rebuilt by memory.

Founded in 1898, Bodega Santa Rosa is one of the oldest wineries in Uruguay — a historic landmark in Colón, shaped by generations, time, and resilience. For years, the winery quietly struggled, holding on just enough to survive.

Until family stepped back in.

A Return Rooted in Bloodlines

In 2021, Juan José Passadore — great-nephew of founder Juan Bautista Passadore — made a decision driven less by logic and more by legacy.

He grew up walking these grounds.
Watching the vines stretch into the distance.
Feeling the weight of what had been built — and what could be lost.

“I couldn’t let it fall,” he said simply.

With no foreign investors and no shortcuts, Juan José and his family stepped in to revive Santa Rosa, investing their own resources, their time, and their hearts. What followed wasn’t just a financial rescue — it was a rebirth.

Today, the winery enters a new chapter as Famiglia Passadore.

Family, Work, and Grit

Juan José’s story mirrors the wines themselves.
Nothing handed. Everything earned.

From working as a laborer and driver to building businesses through decades of effort, his approach to Santa Rosa reflects a lifetime of perseverance. Now joined by his wife, children, and grandchildren, the winery once again operates as a true family endeavor — grounded, present, and hands-on.

He’s often the first to arrive in the morning.
And the last to walk the cellar at night.

The People Behind the Wines

Santa Rosa’s revival didn’t start from scratch — it built on loyalty.

Much of the original team remains, including multi-generation winery families and long-standing winemakers Bruno Beccaría and Nicolás Guzmán, who together bring decades of experience to the cellar.

Commercial leadership came next, with the arrival of Santiago Siniscalco, helping reorganize the portfolio, restore visibility, and reintroduce Santa Rosa to the market with clarity and purpose.

The energy shifted quickly.
The wines never lost their quality — now, they’re being seen again.

Tradition, Reimagined

The focus is clear:

  • Restore Santa Rosa’s place as a serious wine producer

  • Simplify and strengthen the portfolio

  • Let wine — not noise — lead the story

Classic lines like Fond de Cave return with renewed intent.
Tribute wines honor the Passadore lineage.
Innovation follows discipline, not the other way around.

Production has stabilized. Quality remains high.
Exports are reopening doors across Latin America — with the U.S. next.

The Wines We’re Pouring from Famiglia Passadore

As Bodega Santa Rosa enters its next chapter as Famiglia Passadore, these are the three wines we’re proud to lead with at Uruguay Wine Co. Each one reflects a different side of the winery’s revival — tradition, family, and quiet celebration.

🌸 2024 Fond de Cave Rosé

Fresh, easy, and effortlessly charming.

This rosé is Santa Rosa at its most approachable — bright strawberry and citrus notes, a clean finish, and that unmistakable feeling of a wine made to be shared. It’s a nod to the winery’s classic Fond de Cave line, refreshed for modern tables.

Best moments: afternoon light, simple food, no rush
Why we love it: honest, versatile, and quietly joyful

🍷 2024 Passadore Red Wine Blend

A family wine, through and through.

Created as a tribute to the Passadore lineage, this red blend is balanced, smooth, and deeply drinkable. It’s not about power — it’s about harmony. The kind of bottle you open for dinner and realize, halfway through, that it’s already gone.

Best moments: shared meals, long conversations
Why we love it: grounded, generous, and built with intention

🍾 Chateau Thierry Extra Brut

A quiet celebration in a glass.

Dry, crisp, and beautifully refined, this Extra Brut is Santa Rosa’s sparkling expression of restraint and elegance. It’s festive without being flashy — the kind of sparkling wine you open because the moment feels right, not because the calendar says so.

Best moments: first pour of the night, small wins, soft music
Why we love it: precision, freshness, and timeless appeal

Why These Wines Matter

Together, these three bottles tell the story of Santa Rosa’s rebirth:

  • Fond de Cave Rosé honors tradition with a lighter touch

  • Passadore Red Blend reflects family and continuity

  • Chateau Thierry Extra Brut celebrates renewal and confidence

They’re not trying to shout.
They’re meant to be discovered — and remembered.

Santa Rosa Matters to Us

At Uruguay Wine Co., we look for more than good wine.
We look for stories that deserve to be poured again.

Bodega Santa Rosa isn’t chasing trends.
It’s reclaiming its rightful place — patiently, honestly, and with deep respect for what came before.

This is Uruguay at its best:
Underrated. Resilient.
Quietly powerful.

Crafted by generations.
Revived by family.
Poured with purpose.
