MORE INFORMATION

Some wines follow tradition. Others challenge it.

Mayúsculas Tannat Maceración Carbónica represents the bold, youthful side of Pizzorno Family Estates—a wine created for those willing to see Uruguay's signature grape from a completely different perspective. First produced by Pizzorno in 1998, it became the first Tannat in Uruguay crafted using carbonic maceration, a technique famously associated with Beaujolais that emphasizes freshness, fruit purity, and approachability. More than two decades later, it remains one of the most distinctive wines in the country.

Whole grape clusters ferment in a carbon dioxide-rich environment, triggering fermentation inside each berry before traditional fermentation begins. The result is a wine that captures Tannat's character while softening its structure, creating an entirely different expression of the variety. Instead of power and density, the focus shifts to energy, freshness, and vibrant fruit.

Bright ruby in color with violet reflections, the wine opens with aromas of raspberry, cherry, and a subtle banana note characteristic of carbonic maceration. On the palate, it is smooth, balanced, and remarkably easy to drink, with gentle tannins and refreshing acidity. Whether lightly chilled on a summer evening or served alongside pizza, sushi, or casual gatherings, this is a wine designed to be shared, enjoyed, and remembered.

Mayúsculas isn't just a wine.

It's a reminder that Uruguay still has surprises left to discover.

About This Wine

Where does this wine come from?

Pizzorno Family Estates, Canelón Chico, Canelones, Uruguay. Nestled in the heart of Canelón Chico, Pizzorno Family Estates has been farming the same land for four generations. The vineyards benefit from Canelones' temperate climate, cooling Atlantic breezes, and clay-rich soils that naturally balance ripeness with freshness. Every vine is estate-grown and carefully tended by the Pizzorno family, resulting in wines that express both the character of the vineyard and the heritage of one of Uruguay's most respected family wineries.

Who makes this wine?

Carlos Pizzorno & Marcelo Laitano

Maysúcula reflects the innovative side of Pizzorno Family Estates. Led by Carlos Pizzorno and developed in collaboration with winemaker Marcelo Laitano, alongside the fourth generation of the Pizzorno family, the collection explores new varieties and techniques while remaining firmly rooted in the family's estate vineyards. The result is a series of wines that honor tradition while embracing the future of Uruguayan winemaking.

Why did we choose this wine?

We chose this wine because it completely reimagines Uruguay's signature grape. As the country's first carbonic maceration Tannat, it showcases Pizzorno's innovative spirit while revealing an unexpectedly fresh, juicy, and vibrant expression of a variety traditionally known for its power and structure.
