Style Snapshot

A full-bodied Reserva Tannat with black fruit, oak complexity, and exceptional aging potential

Few grapes are more closely associated with Uruguay than Tannat. While originally from southwest France, the variety found its true home in Uruguay's temperate climate and fertile soils, where it developed a distinctive identity defined by concentration, balance, and remarkable longevity. At Pizzorno Family Estates, Tannat has been cultivated and refined over four generations, becoming one of the winery's defining wines.

The Reserva Tannat is sourced from select parcels within the San Francisco vineyard in Canelones, where 25-year-old vines produce fruit of exceptional concentration and character. Traditional fermentation in concrete tanks is followed by twelve months of aging in American oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop complexity while preserving the variety's natural structure and freshness.

Deep violet in color with impressive density, the wine opens with aromas of blackberry, plum, and dark berries layered with notes of cocoa, vanilla, spice, and leather from its time in oak. The palate is broad and structured, with firm yet integrated tannins balanced by vibrant acidity and a long, persistent finish. Rich, complex, and capable of aging for years, this is a Tannat that fully expresses the power and elegance of Uruguay's flagship grape.

As part of the Reserva collection, it represents Pizzorno's commitment to crafting wines that honor both tradition and terroir while showcasing the highest expression of the estate's vineyards.
