CO-FOUNDER, URUGUAY WINE CO.

About This Wine

Where does this wine come from?

Cerro Chapeu, Rivera, Uruguay. Nestled in the rolling red hills of Rivera along Uruguay's northern border with Brazil, Cerro Chapeu is one of the country's most distinctive wine regions. The vineyards are rooted in ancient sandstone soils rich in iron oxide, giving the landscape its unmistakable red color. Warmer days, cool nights, and generations of careful farming create wines with remarkable concentration, freshness, and character. It's a place that feels wonderfully removed from the coast—a frontier of Uruguayan wine where tradition and terroir have quietly shaped exceptional bottles for generations.

Who makes this wine?

Dr. Francisco Carrau, Danny Mayo & Pía Carrau

Cerro Chapeu is guided by three people who each play a unique role in the winery's story. Dr. Francisco Carrau, a tenth-generation winemaker and internationally respected expert in yeasts and wine aromas, leads the estate's winemaking vision. Danny Mayo has overseen the vineyards and daily winemaking since 2007, bringing consistency and an intimate understanding of Cerro Chapeu's distinctive red soils. Pía Carrau, Francisco's daughter, serves as General Manager and sommelier, representing the next generation of one of South America's oldest winemaking families.

Why did we choose this wine?

We chose this wine because it tells a different story of Tannat. Rivera's warmer climate and distinctive red soils create a wine with exceptional depth and concentration while preserving the balance that has become a hallmark of Uruguay's finest reds.

Can you ship to my state?

We ship to 42 States. We do not ship to UT, LA, MS, KY, HI, DE, PA, AK
